While researching about asylum seekers in ASEAN for ASEAN Plus, this is what I thought of other than a clear need to swear out loud.
Seriously… give Thailand a break.
I also thought of this:
Look at that. Surrounded by Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. I really feel like cursing out loud right now. How can you F*ING EXPECT A COUNTRY TO ACCEPT ASYLUM SEEKERS FROM ALL OF ITS NEIGHBOURING COUNTRIES WHEN IT ITSELF IS NOT DOING TOO WELL?! GO CLAIM ALL OF THEM IF YOU WANT TO CRITICISE AND SELL YOUR HUMAN RIGHTS WARE. OR GIVE THAILAND MORE MONEY, FIX THE ECONOMIC CRISIS, MAINTAIN SOCIAL SECURITY, ENSURE ITS CULTURE IS NOT DISPLACED. WTF.
It’s not that f*king easy to accept asylum seekers— please look at the host country’s side for a change. And please look up at the Maslow’s Hierachy of Needs. Is the concept of ‘human rights’ even practical? Let me assert again that human rights is purely/mostly social contract/contractarianism made by the dominant countries, having not made room for even the subtlest sense of cultural relativism and does not have any basis for ‘truth’— it prescribes, not describes. It is human-made human rights. If you recognise how artificial it is (you sure do but political gains is more important to you) then you wouldn’t create such a huge f*king fuss out of it.
